Description
Abstract
Blocks are the base divisions in the Gulf when setting up leases. Most blocks on the Louisiana shelf are 5,000 acres; all other blocks are commonly 5,760 acres. Blocks are divided into protraction areas and sequentially numbered within each. They are identified by the two letter protraction abbreviation, the three or four digit block number and occasionally the letter A at the end to indicate a protraction area addition. Virtually all other data in the Gulf references the block.
Purpose
Analysis for oil and gas exploration and production in the Gulf of Mexico.
