Abstract
The rig is the machine used to drill a wellbore, though offshore, this is often conflated with the drillship itself when it is on a ship. Rig information in GOMsmart comes primarily from the applications for permits to drill, particularly when specifying a drillship to commence drilling operations. Because of this, rigs are mapped by the last entry in the applications for permits to drill, which may be future locations from the current location of a given rig.

Analysis for oil and gas exploration and production in the Gulf of Mexico.
